Between December 4 – 12, 2010,
I will write five letters for Amnesty International’s Write for Rights. I will add my voice, my passion for my fellow men and women across the world who otherwise may be voiceless or oppressed, so that they may find peace of mind, spirit and body.
Want to participate, too? Check out further information on the Write-a-Thon.
It seems pretty simple and straightforward … I write letters of complaint or compliment all the time. I wrote and was awarded $2.7M in grant funding for HIV/AIDS in fiscal year 2009-10 for the Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina. I can certainly write for another’s basic human rights.
As of today (Nov. 2), 64,611 letters have been pledged; the overall goal is to reach a total of at least 350,000. So while you’re considering if you’ve got the extra time and postage to participate, make sure you look around your warm, safe home that’s devoid of armed soldiers standing over you, forcing you do something unspeakable, and blessedly war zone-free. For me, I look to my happy, laughing child and my loving husband, ruffling the feathers of our silly Beagle, Magnolia May. I’ve long known that freedom isn’t free … but I’ve learned that war isn’t the worst place on earth or the worst experience an individual can have.
I hope you’ll join me.
