During this six-hour seminar, you will learn the basics of writing a grant in a hands-on, workshop-type setting. We will cover the different components of grants, and learning to set and maintain a workable grant cycle, tracking possibilities in the business community, and applying good storytelling to a successful program.

Dolly R. Sickles is a lifelong southerner with a penchant for storytelling. She worked for over a dozen years as a creative writer, graphic artist, photographer, PR and marketing guru, grantwriter, social advocate, and agent of change (or some combination therein) with McGraw-Hill, Inc., Nortel Networks, Theatre In The Park, WRAL.com, and the Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina. Her work as a freelance writer and photographer has appeared in Our State Magazine, The Apex Herald, The Cary News, The Raleigh Digest, and a handful of industry publications. Since 20I4, she has taught two writing classes with Wake Technical Community College’s Career Development and Personal Enrichment Department. Her family relocated to Chatham County in 2016, and in 2017, she started teaching a class on writing for children with the Central Carolina Community College’s Continuing Education Creative Writing Program. During her three years as the Director of Public Affairs and Grantwriting with the Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina, she brought in over $4M in grant funding. She has taught Introduction to Grantwriting at Wake Technical Community College for the past four years. It’s a very popular class. 🙂
